The Philly 10k Pop-up Runs: Philadelphia Brewing Company

“Race through 6.2 miles of urban character, seen on the stoops and storefronts, the murals and the markets, the restaurants and the revolution…”

We are now within 2 weeks of everyone’s favorite race of the summer, The Philly 10k!

With the 6.2 mile race quickly approaching, The Philly 10k team planned to beat the excessive heat by organizing one last training run with Philadelphia Runner, Be Well Philly and New Balance that ended at the Philadelphia Brewing Company. Runners received a well-deserved free post-run beer.

Much like the previous training runs, runners met at the Philadelphia Runner store at 6pm on Monday, August 15 and, like previous runs, had the option of trying on and testing out Nike sneakers during the run.

Being a 4:30am runner, I was not particularly used to an early evening run and with the heat index as it has been, our 4 miler last night with the sun heavy and the air humid, became easily the most oppressive run I’ve ever been on. It felt like running in somebody’s mouth.

Thank goodness we ended at Philadelphia Brewing Company– I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see beer before in my entire life.

CBS even filmed a bit on the excessive heat and the ways in which us runners were staying hydrated. Watch it here.

Training runs completed, The Philly 10k will be held on Sunday, August 28 at 7:30AM. See you there, urban runners!
